Arise, Captains Of Champions

Student-Athlete Leadership Investiture (5th Council of School Captains)
Student Leadership Camp

Singapore Sports School saw the induction of 141 School, Academy and Boarding Captains on 15 July 2019. Nicholas Rachmadi will lead the 13-strong executive committee in the 5th batch of Council of School Captains. The triathlete in Year 6 of the International Baccalaureate Diploma extended programme takes over the student-athlete leadership role from Regine Goh Xuan Xuan (Swimming, IBDP Year 6).

From 20 to 22 June, Sports School’s incoming batch of School Captains and Boarding Captains participated in a leadership camp to strengthen and align themselves as a unit, so to serve their peers better during their 1-year term which begins in July 2019. Over three days, latest batch of student-athlete leaders huddled together to plan for upcoming term so as to better represent the student-athlete population and to be a more effective voice for their peers and bridge between the student-athlete body and staff in the areas of school, sport and boarding.

At the camp, Principal Mr Tan Teck Hock encouraged the student-athlete leaders at Sports School’s 2019 Student Leadership Camp, conducted at MOE Labrador Outdoor Adventure Centre, to be change-makers and effective leaders for their peers. “In the past, the people who lived in this area were mostly fishermen. Now, the port, offices and retail malls surround us. There have been changes. The transformation didn't happen overnight. It took time. You – school captains and boarding captains – can make a change at school. Some changes can be made quickly, some take slightly longer. Everyone has a voice, everyone has a view. You can make the difference,” he said.
