Amidst the highly competitive environment at the 22nd Asian Junior Tenpin Bowling Championships 2023, Lim Shi En remained unfazed and focused throughout the Championships. With a total pinfall of 2,440, the Secondary 5 student-athlete sealed the gold medal in the Doubles event with schoolmate Nur Irdina Hazly. This was the duo’s first gold medal victory at the competition held from 19 to 25 August 2023 on home ground.

Buoyed by her good performance, Shi En went on to achieve another extraordinary feat of clinching 3 more gold medals in the Team of 4, All Events, and Masters events. This marked a remarkable improvement from her performance in the 2022 edition held in Bangkok, where she secured 3 gold medals in the Doubles, Team of 4, and Masters events. Reflecting on her achievement, Shi En expressed, “I wanted to come back even stronger from last year, which I definitely did,” during an interview with The Straits Times.

Amongst the boys, Brian Ngoi Kai Ren illuminated the stage with 2 gold medals in the Team of 4 and All Events. Brian shared his elation during an interview with The Straits Times. He said: “I feel really great as I was finally able to show that my team’s hard work paid off. Our team spirit was also very good, and we were all motivated by each other.”

Out of Team Singapore’s 16 bowlers, Sports School showcased an impressive 12-member strong contingent of past and present student-athletes. The girls' team featured Hazel Tan, Jerlyn Lam Si Ting, Lim Shi En, Nur Irdina Hazly, and Nur Salsabila Zulkifli. Meanwhile, the boys' team included Brian Ngoi Kai Ren, John Yong-Ming Faragalla (alumnus), Joshua Gaza Soo Chak Kuen, Leroy Kwek Peng Suan, Mark Leong Yew Chen, Olivier Brassard Khoo, and Ryan Goi Chee Hean.

In total, our bowlers remarkably secured 7 gold medals, contributing significantly to Team Singapore's impressive tally of 10 medals (8 gold and 2 silver). To top it off, Team Singapore emerged as champions in the girls, boys and overall categories.
