The Swimming Academy worked together with Fei Yue Community Services to organise an Intergeneration Learning Programme for 54 seniors over two Wednesday afternoons on 12 and 19 July 2023.
We started the Values in Action (VIA) programme at 4pm with our student-athletes welcoming the seniors into the school and leading them to the AVA room. We shared about our school's history before the seniors were split into smaller groups and joined by our swimmers for some ice breaker activities.
We also gave the seniors a tour of our school. We led them to see the netball courts, swimming pool and other facilities around our school. The seniors could also see our student-athletes in action during their training sessions. We also showed them our boarding and our laundry area.
Next, we ended the school tour at the National Youth Sports Institute. We taught the seniors to do some simple exercises like squats and stretches. The swimmers and the seniors had a lot of fun doing the exercises together.
Lastly, at end of the session, all of us had dinner together with the seniors, where they had lively conversations and shared their thoughts about our school with us.
Overall, it was a great experience for the seniors and our swimmers, and we hope to work with Fei Yue Community Services for another VIA programme soon.
