International Bowling Federation Under-21 World Junior Championships
Alumna Colleen Pee is on top of the world after bagging four titles at the International Bowling Federation (IBF) U21 World Championships at Olympia Bowling Arena in Helsinborg, Sweden! She is the newly-minted Under-21 Women’s Singles World Champion, and also made her mark by sweeping gold medals in Women’s Doubles, Women’s Team and Mixed Team events.
With their 4 gold and 1 bronze medal-win on the world junior championship stage, Team Singapore’s junior bowlers have created history with their rich medal haul.
In the Women’s Singles final, she beat Malaysia’s Alyaa Addini Zulmari in the nail-biting final which saw her win 2 of the 3 games. She beat the Malaysian 213-190 in the first game, and tied in the second game with 212 pinfalls each. The 18-year-old alumna won her first world junior title after she stamped her class with a 60-40 score in the deciding game.
The title-winning Women’s Singles game set her off on a roll as she went on to clinch gold medals consecutively in the Women’s Doubles, Women’s Team and Mixed Team finals on the same day. She performed consistently well in the back-to-back games, and adorned one gold medal after another in all four events that Team Singapore had qualified in.
Her teammate Quek Lu Yi, who graduated in May from the Diploma in Business Studies course this year, also finished with two medals – a gold and a bronze. She was a part of the Women’s Team that claimed the title after beating USA in the gold-medal match. The team tied the first game, and won the tie-breaker with a score of 49-29 in the second game.
Lu Yi also won a bronze in Women’s Doubles with her doubles partner Ning Tay. The duo lost to their French opponents in the semi-final match, and settled for bronze. The other Women’s Doubles pair, Colleen and her partner Arianne Tay, beat the same French duo in the exciting finals to bag the Women’s Doubles title.
On the same day, alumna Jazreel Tan Shi Hua and Bernice Lim Hui Ying scorched the lanes at the European Bowling Tour Masters in Germany. Bernice outclassed master bowlers from around the world to finish 1st, while Jazreel’s excellent performance placed her 3rd in the competition.
