Swimmers Display Medal-Winning Feats
ASEAN Schools Games 2024, 19th Singapore Swimming National Championships, 2nd Southeast Asian Open Water Swimming Championships
4 Sports School swimmers were among the 100-strong Singapore School Sports Team contingent that participated in the ASEAN Schools Games, held from 31 May to 8 June 2024, in Da Nang, Vietnam. Themed 'Connect to Shine Bright', it marked the event's return after its last edition in 2019.
Elle Nicole Tay Jiaqi seized the opportunity to compete against her ASEAN peers and delivered a stellar performance in the pool, earning an impressive haul of 5 medals across various events. She clinched a gold medal in the Girls’ 200m Breaststroke, 3 silver medals in the Girls’ 100m Breaststroke, 400m Freestyle, and 200m Individual Medley, and added a bronze in the Girls’ 800m Freestyle Relay with her schoolmate Casey Chua Tong Yu.
Meanwhile, Julia Yeo and Jerald Lium continued to shine in the local swimming scene at the 19th Singapore Swimming National Championships held from 12 to 15 June. Julia impressed with a bronze medal in the Women’s 200m Backstroke, while Jerald secured a silver in the Men’s 400m Freestyle.
7 swimmers also ventured into open waters in Bali, Indonesia, participating in the 2nd Southeast Asian Open Water Swimming Championships from 28 to 30 June 2024. Despite the challenges posed by ocean waves and the weather, student-athletes from Sports School who represented Team Singapore brought home 3 medals. Artyom Lukasevits won silver among the 20 years old and above swimmers in the 5km category and was part of the 4 x 1.5km mixed team relay that won bronze. Azlina Mastamam and Ian Leong Wei Sheng were part 14-17 years old mixed team quartet that won silver at the competition.
