TeamNUS Engages Sports School

National University of Singapore’s Engagement Session with Singapore Sports School

The National University of Singapore (NUS) showed its support for athletes by organising an engagement session exclusively for student-athletes and parents from Singapore Sports School. This is the first time that a session of its kind has been organised. Held on 21 May 2022 at the University Sports Centre, the engagement session attracted about 90 student-athletes and parents who were keen to find out more about the University’s athlete-friendly support.

Associate Professor Ho Han Kiat, NUS Dean of Students, and Mahrunisa Fathiyah, Head of Sports, addressed the full-house crowd and shared how NUS values athletes, and renders support for them to continue their sporting pursuits during their degree education. Alumnus from NUS, Ang Chen Xiang, a hurdler who has made a name for himself, was also in the crowd to share his story of being a medical student while he continued his passion for athletics. Chen Xiang recently won a historic silver medal and rewrote the 110m hurdles national record at the 31st SEA Games.

Most of the attendees found the session extremely useful. Among them was former Chairman of the Sporting Parents Network, Mr Colin Foo. His daughter, bowler Evangeline Foo, will be starting her university education at NUS this year. He shared, “I attended the session to find out more about the type of support NUS can offer to support her sports while she continues her education there. It is heartening to know that sporting talents are valued in NUS. I am glad that both schools are working together to ensure that the journey towards sporting excellence continues beyond Sports School.”
