Singapore Sports School’s swimming complex was abuzz with excitement as a record 223 swimmers turned up for the 3rd Singapore Sports School Invitational Swimming Meet on 2 November 2019.

Swimmers, age 9 and older, from affiliate clubs of Singapore Swimming Association, local swimming clubs and international schools, took the plunge into the same pool that two-time Olympian Tao Li trained in for at least six years. It was this very pool that inspired Paralympic swimmer Toh Wei Soong, who also competed at the invitational meet, to pursue his dream of competing at the world stage. The meet saw healthy competition across the 22 contested events as participants strove hard to outdo themselves and their peers in a welcoming environment. Competing alongside older and more experienced swimmers also provided a platform for younger athletes to push their boundaries and achieve personal bests.

Swimming Academy student-athletes also had the opportunity for personal development by helping out as timekeepers, call room officials and in other administrative matters. They were also able to learn technical aspects of the sport from SSA technical officials who contributed to the success and smooth running of the meet.
