Rising Stars Shine In Italy Junior And Cadet Open
2019 ITTF Junior Circuit Premium, Italy Junior and Cadet Open
The five-day 2019 ITTF Junior Circuit Premium Junior and Cadet Open which took place in Lignano, Italy from 20 to 24 March 2019, attracted 395 players from 34 countries.
Singapore Sports School’s lower secondary paddlers, Ser Lin Qian, Zhou Jingyi and Izaac Quek Yong had put up a strong fight throughout the competition against their opponents. Lin Qian and Jingyi finished in third position in the Cadet Girls’ Doubles. The girls were on a winning streak of four games against Hungarian pair Adamik Csenge and Balogh Kira with a winning score of 3 to 0 in the Round of 32, followed by defeating the Italians, Angeli Caterina and Arlia Nicole in the Round of 16 with a score of 3 to 1 and an smooth victory in the quarter-final with a score of 3 to 0, before missing out the finals with a score of 0 to 3 at the semi-final.
In the Cadet Girls’ Team event, Jingyi and Lin Qian beat Team Poland with a score of 3 to 0 in the quarter-finals but did not make it to the finals after losing to Team Romania with a score of 1 to 3 in the semi-finals. The girls finished the Cadet Team event with a bronze medal.
At the Boys' table, Singapore Sports School Secondary 1 student-athlete, Izaac Quek Yong, came in top 16 in the Junior Boys’ Singles and top 8 in the Cadet Boys’ Singles.
