As Singapore is battling against COVID-19, a group of us from the Bowling Academy have always wanted to do something more to show our appreciation for healthcare workers who are working tirelessly in the front line to curb the outbreak. With a team of 11, we quickly got into action and took the lead in spearheading the project by coming together to brainstorm ideas. We eventually decided to involve the whole Bowling Academy and make handmade “Thank You” cards for healthcare workers in nine hospitals.

The coaches gave us a big head start by giving us inspiration and helping us to purchase what we needed, while 11 of us took charge of planning, designing the cards and engaging the rest of the academy. Although it was hard to gather everyone together at the same time, we pushed through our hectic schedules and got most of the work done within a short time span of two weeks. We spent almost every afternoon at the bowling centre planning, decorating the cards and deciding which nine hospitals to send the cards to. In addition, we involved the whole academy, from Secondary 1 to IBDP, by giving everyone post-it notes so that they could personalise the cards with their words of appreciation. With everyone putting in their effort to make this project a success, we were happy that our hard work paid off and the cards turned out stunning.

The cards will be given to healthcare workers in Alexandra Hospital, Changi General Hospital, Khoo Teck Puat Hospital, KK Women’s And Children’s Hospital, National Cancer Centre, National Heart Centre, National Neuroscience Institute, National Skin Centre and National University Hospital.

We hope that our small gesture could spur the healthcare workers on during this difficult time. It could not have felt any better than to give back to society and show our appreciation to our frontline workers with my teammates.
