Fencers Advancing Into The History Books With Top 8 Finish!
World Junior and Cadet Fencing Championships
It was a moment to be remembered and celebrated as our fencing student-athlete, Dan Wei Zuo (Diploma in Business Studies, Year 2) made history at the World Junior and Cadet Fencing Championships held in Dubai.
Wei Zuo beat Lasha Kutchukhidze from Georgia 15-13 in the final 16 of the championship and earned a spot in the Top 8 – making it the best ever result for U20 Men's Sabre at the World Junior Championships. Though he lost the quarter-finals against Italian Pietro Torre, Wei Zuo can hold his head up high for his outstanding performance as a debutante and for setting a new benchmark at the World Junior Championships.
Wei Zuo also played his part in the Junior Men’s Sabre Team which featured James Ng Xuan-Xin (extended Diploma in Business Studies) and Chan Phu Xien (Alumnus), while Juliet Heng Jie Min (Diploma in Business Studies, Year 1) was part of the Junior Women’s Sabre Team. Both Singapore teams performed exceptionally well to defeat their opponents and became the only Asian teams that emerged in the Top 8 at the World Junior & Cadet Fencing Championships.
