National School Games: Shooting
Shooters were charged up as they immersed in the heat of the National School Games Shooting Championships 2022. The ‘B’ Division Air Pistol Men’s team fired off the competition on 4 April 2022 with a good start, winning a medal of each colour in both the 10m Air Pistol Men’s individual and team events.
In the individual event, Adrian Osman (Secondary 4) and Rayfield Tay Yu Hong (Secondary 3) took a silver and bronze medal respectively, before clinching a gold medal in the team event with teammates Eugene Kek Jia Jian and Maldon Then Fung Lim (both Secondary 4).
The Air Rifle Men’s team took the stage the next day, and continued to deliver strong results. With a total of 609.4 points, 1.6 points shy of the top opponent’s score, Eston Soo Yin Teng (Secondary 3) settled for a bronze in the individual event. Together with teammates Ryan Sim Jia Le (Secondary 3), Mathius Chua Yao Wei, Jesper Lim (both Secondary 4), the shooters clinched the Academy’s second gold medal from the Championships.
The ‘B’ Division girls also put up a strong showing in the competition. Faithe Odelia De Souza (Secondary 4) stood out from the crowd to clinch the 10m Air Rifle Women’s individual gold. To top it off, she has also broken the National School Games record in the event. She continued her fine form in the team event where she took the gold medal with teammates Jillian Su En-Yin (Secondary 3) and Soh Yi Wei (Secondary 4). Clarice Lee Shan Rong was the only shooter who medalled in the 10m Air Pistol Women’s event. She narrowly missed the top position by 1 point, and took home a silver medal in the individual event.
The ‘A’ Division shooters did just as well, with the Air Pistol Men’s shooters making a clean sweep in both the individual and team events. Kevyn Loh Zheng Lin (IBDP, Year 6) shot a total of 561 points to win the individual gold medal. He also struck gold in the team event with teammates Au Yong Qing Yong, Lau Yew Liang, (both IBDP, Year 5) and Maxx Lee Yu Wei (IBDP, Year 6).
Meanwhile, the ‘A’ Division Air Pistol and Air Rifle girls also bagged two gold medals. Shirlene Hew Yun Ting (IBDP, Year 6) took the Air Pistol Women’s individual gold, while the Air Rifle Women’s team, consisting of Ariana Beh Yoke Ching (IBDP, Year 5), Edlyn Nadra Mohammed Sophian, Irna Qistina Noorazlin and Emma Jane Pragasam (all IBDP, Year 6), bagged a gold medal in the 10m Air Rifle Women’s team event. Ariana also took a silver in the individual event.
Over the 8-day competition from 4 to 28 April, both the ‘A’ and ‘B’ Division shooters clinched a total of 13 medals – 8 gold, 3 silver and 2 bronze. The action will continue with the ‘C’ Division shooters taking over the lead.
