National School Games: Swimming
Our swimmers were quick to warm up at the National School Games. On the first day of the six-day competition held from 18 to 22 April 2022, they were eager to beat their previous timings to clock a total of 15 personal best timings, and bring home 3 medals (2 silver and 1 bronze) in the 800m Freestyle event. The medallists are Claire Chua Xin Ting (Secondary 3) and Clydi Chan (IBDP, Year 6) who took home a silver each, and Koh Kai Lin (Secondary 3) who won a bronze.
Motivated to gain more from the competition, the swimmers continued their form in their 200m Individual Medley and 200m Backstroke events. The 23 swimmers who swam on the second day capped a total of 18 personal best timings and 5 medals (1 silver and 4 bronze). Aaron Jonathan Ang (Secondary 1) took the silver medal, while Amanda Law Zeyi, Magdalene Lee, Lee Xuan Ying (all Secondary 2) and Manda Low Zi Qi (Secondary 3) each got a bronze.
Their breakthrough came on the third day when Lim Wan Ting (Secondary 4) brought back the Academy’s first gold medal in the Girls 15-17 200m Freestyle event. It was also the same day when the swimmers clinched the biggest medal haul in a single day, raking in 9 medals (1 gold, 2 silver, 6 bronze) and 10 personal best timings. Going from strength to strength, the swimmers continued to put up a strong showing, and swept a whopping 38 personal best timings and 19 medals (4 gold, 6 silver, 9 bronze) on day four and five of the competition. The gold medals were clinched by Azlina Mastamam (Secondary 1), Brandon Yap Yan Xi, Leroy Lock (both Secondary 4) and Vivienne Chew En (Secondary 2).
Azlina and Vivienne also teamed up with Heather Teo Jing Wen (Secondary 1) and Har Mint (Secondary 2) on the last day of the competition to clinch a gold medal in the Girls 4x50 Medley Relay and Girls 4x50 Free Relay.
