Ice Skaters Bid Farewell To The Rink with 11 Medals
Southeast Asia Open ShortTrophy
From 1 to 2 April 2023, our ice skaters made a big haul at The Rink in Jcube for the SEA Open Short Track Trophy with 11 medals. This was a poignant competition as it was the final competition to be held at The Rink in JCube as the shopping mall is scheduled to close on 6 August this year.
Alumna Alyssa Pok and Xu Jingfeng faced off a total of 120 short track speed skaters from the Southeast Asian region and attained 3 individual gold medals each. They also teamed up with Ryo Ong to obtain gold in the Junior Mixed Relay event. This was a momentous win for Xu Jingfeng as he missed out on the Singapore National Championships last October after contracting dengue fever and could not train much due to school commitments. “The medals that I won were very significant to me as it proved to myself that I was still able to perform at my best even with all the difficulties that I had faced in the past year,” he explained.
Team Singapore won a total of 14 golds, 12 silvers and 10 bronzes at the competition, of which 7 golds and 4 silvers were collectively attained by the Sports School’s student-athletes.
The competition is sanctioned by the International Skating Union (ISU) and Asian Skating Union and supported by the ISU Development Programme.
