Triple Joy For Footballers
National School Games (‘B’ Division), JSSL Singapore Professional Academy 7s, JSSL Singapore National Youth Leagues 2023
It was a month of celebration for the Football Academy as they brought home three championship titles in three football tournaments in April.
Our Secondary 3 boys were the first to bring home the Under-15 Boys Cup at the JSSL Singapore Professional Academy 7s. Held from 7 to 9 April 2023, the JSSL 7s is one of Asia's biggest football youth tournaments which showcases young talent of over 450 teams across 17 countries. The teams came together to vie for the championship title of their respective age group in the 7-a-side tournament.
Our boys played their ‘A’ game, showing both professionalism and dedication throughout the tournament. The team gained their spot in the Cup knock-out competition after emerging top 4 in the first 2 days. They were eventually crowned champion in the Boys Cup Category after an intense title fight on the last day of the tournament at Our Tampines Hub.
The Secondary 3 and 4 footballers were also on a winning streak at the National School Games Football National ‘B’ Division Boys Championship held from 27 February to 14 April. They brought home the second title for the Academy. This is also the first national ‘B’ Division football title organised after since COVID-19. The Football Academy were double title winners in 2017 and 2018.
“I was full of excitement and wanted to celebrate with my teammates. I felt the joy of playing football again and playing in these kinds of tournaments,” said Secondary 3 student-athlete Harith Danish Irwan in an interview with The Straits Times. The attacker scored the first goal for the team, while Ryan Hakim Rickitt smashed the ball home in the 52nd minute to seal the team’s 2-0 win over Tanjong Katong Secondary School.
The 2023 league season also began for our Secondary 1 and 2 football boys earlier this year as they participated in the JSSL Singapore National Youth Leagues 2023 held from 29 January to 23 April. Competing against 5 other teams in the 11-a-side competition, our boys fought their way through 10 matches, winning 9 matches and a draw. This led them to earn an accumulative 28 points to bring home the Academy’s third championship title in the Under-14 JSSL Division 1 League on 23 April.
