Darren Ong And Colleen Pee Receive Top Bowler And Youth Bowler Award
Singapore Bowling Federation Bowler of the Year and Youth Bowler of the Year Awards
At Singapore Bowling Federation's annual Awards Night on 8 April 2024, world champions and alumnus Darren Ong Wei Siong and current student-athlete Colleen Pee experienced a night they will never forget as they were presented the titles of Bowler of the Year and Youth Bowler of the Year respectively.
Darren's recognition was a culmination of his outstanding performance in 2023, highlighted by his victory in the Men’s Singles category at the International Bowling Federation World Championships in Kuwait last October. This achievement marked the first time a Singaporean had claimed the title since Remy Ong in 2006, cementing Darren's status as a top-tier bowler.
Expressing his gratitude, Darren remarked in an interview with The Straits Times: “The team are full of world-class bowlers, so to be able to stand out last year and win the award this year does make it very special to me.”
Meanwhile, Colleen's consecutive win of the Youth Bowler of the Year award underscored her remarkable talent and dedication to the sport. The first-year Diploma in Business student-athlete made significant waves in the sport, securing a gold and two bronzes at the 2023 Asian Youth Tenpin Bowling Championships, along with a women’s doubles silver and a team bronze at the world championships.
Reflecting on her achievement, Colleen expressed her surprise and gratitude. In her interview with The Straits Times, she said: “I was shocked at first because I didn’t expect myself to win this award again. I want to thank my teammates, coaches and the whole village behind me who have helped me improve.”
