Bowling For Glory Against Top Talents In Asia
21st MWA Asian Junior Tenpin Bowling Championships
The top junior bowling kingpins from around the region gathered at the 21st MWA Asian Junior Tenpin Bowling Championships in Bangkok, Thailand to vie for top positions and bowling glory. This is the first international competition since the pandemic for our junior bowlers and they have prepped themselves up for it.
Ashley Victoria Lok (Secondary 4) and Shirlene Wong Xue Lin (Diploma in Business Studies, Year 1) struck early in the Girls’ Singles event by winning gold and silver respectively. Ashley scored a total 1,334 pinfalls while Shirlene racked in 1,300 pinfalls. Shirlene then paired up with Lim Shi En (Secondary 4) in the Women’s Doubles event and the pair struck gold with a combined total of 2,466 pinfalls. Ashley and Nur Irdina Hazly (Secondary 3) also made the podium by clinching bronze with a total 2,410 pinfalls.
More medals rolled in from the team events with Shirlene and Shi En winning the gold medal, while the all-Sports School Team B featuring Ashley, Jerlyn Lam Si Ting (Diploma in Business Studies, Year 1), Taneisha Kaur Teo Ee Lin (IBDP, Year 5), and Nur Irdina coming in 3rd. Ashley and Shirlene’s stellar performances placed them at the top of the table in 2nd and 3rd place respectively in the Girls' All Events. The Boys' team comprising Brian Ngoi Kai Ren, Mathieu Louis (both Secondary 3), Ryan Goi Chee Hean (Secondary 4), and Leroy Kwek Peng Suan (IBDP, Year 5) clinched the bronze medal with 5,060 pinfalls.
For their awesome performance, Ashley, Shirlene, Shi En, and Nur Irdina competed in the Girls' Masters finals, while Brian, Leroy, Mathieu, and Joshua Gaza Soo Chak Kuen (Secondary 4), featured in the Boys' Masters. Shi En went on to record a victory over Japan's Ishida Manon by 20 pins to win the gold medal, while Nur Irdina was defeated by Ishida by a 11-pin difference to finish with a bronze medal.
The competition was a major success for our fantastic bowlers who wrapped up the competition with 4 gold, 2 silver, and 5 bronze medals.
