Valiant Effort To Secure Second Place In Football ‘C’ Division NSG
National School Games – Football ‘C’ Division
An exhilarating run to the finals set our ‘C’ Division football boys up against Victoria School in the National School Games on 11 August 2023. On the way to finals, our footballers showed steely grit and determination to fend off strong opposition from good teams such as Beatty Secondary School and Meridian Secondary School.
It was neck-and-neck action from the first blow of the whistle, with action on both sides of the field. Our footballers in red started the game in high tempo, making runs down the wings and closing the opposition swiftly whenever they lost possession. Their efforts were rallied on by the drumming and cheering of other student-athletes, staff, and parents who made their way to the National Stadium.
Multiple attacks were thwarted by a dogged Victorian defence who were in the right place and time to intercept passes and through balls. When it seemed like it was to be even going into the half-time break, a foul just outside the penalty area set up an opportunity for Victoria School who did not waste their chance and splashed home a freekick past our goalkeeper.
It was an uphill battle in the second half, but our footballers showed they were willing to match up with the pressure by playing well. However, it was not meant to be, and they left the field disappointed when the referee blew the whistle for full-time. Nevertheless, the supporting contingent cheered our footballers on and acknowledged their valiant effort in the finals.
We are sure the footballers will grow from this episode and will be raring to go at the next competition.
