Principal's Message
Dear student-athletes, parents, friends,
We ended 2021 on a high, celebrating the achievements of our current student-athletes and our alumni, most notably, the crowning of Singapore’s first Badminton World Champion, Loh Kean Yew, since the inception of the Badminton World Federation (BWF) World Championships in 1977. It was a fitting end to a year of striving despite the pandemic for Singapore Sports School (SSP), for sports and for Singapore.
Kean Yew’s achievement goes beyond his history-making feat, but shone in the character that he displayed on his journey towards his goal and even more so, after he has achieved it. He epitomized the qualities of the learned champions with character in our vision. We would do well to read and learn from him, his many acts of discipline, resilience, respect, gratitude, humility and constant striving for learning and growth.
The sharing from Kean Yew when he returned to give back to SSP sets the appropriate tone for the start of 2022. May each of us DREAM BIG, WORK HARD and BE DISCIPLINE as we work towards our goals; always being humble to learn and grow, showing respect to all around us, and always remembering to be grateful and to give back.
With higher vaccination rate amongst our population and internationally, and the opening up of international travel, even with the new COVID-19 Omicron strain, we will continue to explore more local and overseas training and competition opportunities for our student-athlete as we look forward to 2022.
We will further enrich our teaching and learning experiences to make learning relevant and engaging. We will also strengthen our character and citizenship education, leadership development and peer support.
Let us work together to help you become a better athlete, learner, and most importantly, a better person. Let us grow and contribute to each other’s growth by becoming a stronger sparring partner at training, offer more insightful discussions in class, be a caring friend who spurs each other towards greater heights, comforts each other when we fall, and celebrate together when we soar.
Together, let us build an excellence-driven, caring Sports School, where everyone looks forward to training, learning and growing here.
Warmest wishes for the New Year!
