Shooters Hit Strong Performance In Thailand
44th Southeast Asian Shooting Championship 2022, Air Gun Invitational Shooting Competition
15 past and present student-athletes pit their skills against the region’s best shooters at the 44th Southeast Asian Shooting Championship 2022. Over the competition held from 1 to 12 December in Bangkok, Thailand, the team clinched a total of 13 medals – 2 gold, 8 silver and 3 bronze.
Adrian Osman and Teo Jia En stood out from the crowd in the individual events, with each of them scoring a bronze medal in the 10m Air Pistol Junior and Men Individual respectively. Adrian and Jia En also went on to contribute a medal in the team events. Adrian, together with batchmate Rayfield Tay Yu Hong scored a bronze in the 10m Air Pistol Men Junior Team, while Jia En was part of the 10m Air Pistol Men’s Team that won a silver.
The girls did equally well in the team events, with Clarice Lee Shan Rong contributing a silver in the 10m Air Pistol Women Team, while Edlyn Nadra Mohammed Sophian, Irna Qistina Noorazlin and Soh Yi Wei teamed up to win a silver in the 10m Air Rifle Women Junior Team.
“Although the results for past and present student athletes varies, many of us managed to improve our results at the competition. I shot a 554 in the 10m Air Pistol Junior events, and got a bronze for both Individual and Team. However, I feel that I could have done better if I had calmed down during my finals match. Overall, I am still satisfied with what I had achieved at this competition. Through my overseas competition experience this year, I learnt that the competition venue may change but it is still the same routine that I must follow,” shared Adrian.
Meanwhile, other student-athletes of the Shooting Academy were also in Thailand. They were invited by the Sports Association Of Suphanburi Province for an Air Gun Invitational Competition held with two local schools. At the competition held from 17 to 22 December 2022, our shooters received a warm welcome from the host, and made friends with many of the local shooters who participated in the competition. For many of the student-athletes, this was their first overseas competition and they performed well to create new personal best scores and bring back a couple of trophies. This include Jesper Lim winning first place in the 10m Air Rifle Men Individual, and topping the Team event with teammates Jaden Neo Yu Zhen and Ryan Sim Jia Le.
