Water Polo Boys Win Regional Competitions
3rd KRSA Junior Blast Water Polo Championship 2023, Bangkok Water Polo Invitational Cup 2023, 64th MILO-DSA-PRM Malaysia Open Water Polo Championships 2023
The holiday season proved to be a victorious splash for our water polo players as they showed their talents and skills on the regional stage.
Secondary 2 student-athletes Ethan Tan Zi Jun and Ryan Chua captained and vice-captained a team of 10-12-year-old players representing Speediswim at the 3rd KRSA Junior Blast Water Polo Championship 2023 at Pusat Akuatik Tuanku Zara, Ipoh, Malaysia. The team, playing in the Under-13 Men’s Group, emerged as champions in the competition held from 2nd to 3rd December 2023. Ethan was rewarded for his excellent play by being named the Most Valuable Player (MVP).
During the same period, another 9 student-athletes flew to Bangkok to participate in the Bangkok Water Polo Invitational Cup 2023 from 30th November to 3rd December 2023. They were part of a combined Speediswim and 28 Degree team that secured a bronze medal in the Under-16 Men's Group. The triumphant squad included Dylan Tay Jun Ming, Javier Ng, Rhys Vaswani, Jaylen Yeo Hao Wei, Isaiah Patrick Yong En, Tan Wu Yee, Merrill Hwang, Matthias Zoltin Goh and Janson Ng.
All of them, along with Ryan Chua and Koh Kai Jie, ended the school holidays on a high after emerging as champions in the 64th MILO-DSA-PRM Malaysia Open Water Polo Championships 2023 in Bukit Jalil, Kuala Lumpur. In the spectacular final match against Sarawak, they beat them with a commanding 17-7 scoreline which positioned them at the pinnacle of the table, overshadowing strong contenders such as Selangor, Kuala Lumpur, and Negri Sembilan.
Janson Ng also participated in the open category in the same competition. He was grateful to gain good exposure to higher-level competition, contributing to his growth as an athlete.
