Swimmers Win In Open Waters
Open Water Swimming Championships
As compared to pool swimming, the completely different environment posed in open water swimming with no lanes, salty water and poor visibility will put your endurance to the test. That did not deter our swimmers from taking on the challenge in the 1st South East Asian Open Water Swimming Championships held in Putrajaya, Malaysia from 2 to 4 February 2023.
Post-secondary swimmers Candice Ang Ruo Han, Ritchie Oh Rui Zhi and Artyom Lukasevits competed and excelled in the 5km, 10km and Mixed Team events, clocking some amazing timings and results. Artyom who secured 1st in the 5km Male and 3rd in the 10km Male for his age category (18-19 years old) said that he is looking forward to build on this successes and is working towards performing well at this year’s World Championships.
Ritchie Oh Rui Zhi also swam furiously and clocked a good timing which earned him the third place in the 10km event. He had also finished just after Artyom in the 5km Male event, missing out on a podium finish.
Candice also returned home with a medal. Together with Artyom, Ritchie and their teammate, they came in 3rd in the Mixed Team 4x1.5km Relay.
