Paddlers Illuminate At Local And Overseas Competitions
STTA National 'B' Division Championships 2024, WTT Youth Contender Tunis 2024
The Table Tennis Academy set out on their first local competition in 2024 and returned with excellent results at the STTA National 'B' Division Championships 2024 held from 25 January to 4 February 2024. Our student-athletes secured an impressive total of 5 titles, out of 7 events contested in the Championships.
Secondary 2 student-athlete, Loy Ming Ying, stole the limelight as she swept 4 gold medals in the tournament. This included a gold medal in the Women’s Singles, Women’s Doubles with Chloe Lai, Mixed Doubles with brother Loy Xing Yao, as well as a gold medal in the Women’s Team event with Chloe, Sie Lay Yin and Janelle Chiang.
After the local competition, 6 Sports School paddlers ventured to the WTT Youth Contender Tunis 2024 from 23 to 26 February, aiming to enhance their skills amidst the world's top youth paddlers. They were part of the 8-member Team Singapore contingent. They included Loy Xing Yao and Ellsworth Le in the boys’ team, as well as Loy Ming Ying, Chloe Lai, Janissa Cheng, and Janelle Chiang in the girls’ team.
Throughout the competition, the team distinguished themselves, earning a commendable total of 2 bronze medals for Singapore. Secondary 2 student-athlete, Loy Ming Ying, clinched one of the bronze medals in the Under-15 Girls’ Singles category, triumphing over opponents from India and Uzbekistan to reach the semi-finals. After facing a strong competitor from Hong Kong, Ming Ying secured a bronze with a 1-3 score.
Her senior Chloe Lai also demonstrated exceptional skills in the Under-19 Girls’ Singles, securing Singapore’s second bronze medal. Chloe showcased her skills against German and Korean opponents, only to be defeated by a compatriot in the semi-finals.
Beyond medals, the competition offered the team invaluable opportunities to challenge themselves and test their mettle against top-tier youth players globally.
