Fencers En-garde To Success
Singapore Sabre Nationals and Minime 2023
Our sabreists lunged into action at the Singapore Sabre Nationals and Minime 2023 held at the OCBC Arena. Over the weekend from 28 to 29 January 2023, they put up a strong fight, and topped the leaderboard in their respective events.
Secondary 2 fencer Ashton Auw Sen Hon stood tall in the competition as he defeated 16 others to enter the all-Sports School finals against his junior Cameron Soliano Alexandra Tan. Ashton eventually won the Under-14 Men's Sabre Individual event, and took home the gold medal, while Cameron settled for a silver medal.
Their seniors did just as well in the competition, with post-secondary student-athletes Dan Wei Zuo and Isaac Ong Shao En breaking into the top 3 positions at the Men's Sabre Individual. Both eventually finished with a silver and bronze respectively. Meanwhile, Juliet Heng Jie Min was the only Sports School student-athlete who medalled in the Women's Sabre Individual event. She took home a silver medal.
In total, our fencers clinched 7 medals. This includes 1 gold, 3 silver, and 1 bronze. Sarah Koh Ya Qi and Kayla Por Ke Xin, who finished in 5th and 6th place respectively in the Under-14 Women's Sabre Individual, were also presented a medal.
