Shooters Off To A Good Start
Singapore Cup 1, Meyton Cup, H&N Cup
The Shooting Academy was off to a busy start in 2023, with their sporting calendar packed with action locally and overseas.
Locally, Teo Jia En and Tang Hong An topped the leaderboard in the Singapore Cup 1 held from 7 to 15 January 2023, claiming a gold and silver medal in the 10m Air Pistol and 10m Air Rifle Men's Individual event respectively. Alumnae and sister pair Fernel Tan Qian Ni and Adele Tan Qian Xiu also performed strongly to win the silver and bronze medals respectively in the 10m Air Rifle Women's Individual event.
Our shooters continued their winning streak at the Meyton Cup held in Innsbruck, Austria. A group of 9 shooters competed twice between 21 to 24 January 2023 and scored podium finishes, proving themselves as competitors to be reckoned with amongst a strong field of shooters from countries such as Austria, Germany and Switzerland.
Jia En emerged victorious against a pool of top junior shooters in the 10m Air Pistol Men Junior Individual event, and brought home the gold medal. The girls also proved to be formidable opponents in the competition, with Ariana Beh Yoke Ching and Clarice Lee Shan Rong bringing home a gold medal each in the 10m Air Rifle Women Junior Individual and 10m Air Pistol Women Junior Individual events respectively. Clarice continued her fine form on the second day as she clinched another gold in the same event.
Meanwhile, Faithe Odelia De Souza also performed well on the second day to clinch a gold medal in the 10m Air Rifle Women Junior Individual. The team won a total of 9 medals (5 gold, 1 silver, 3 bronze).
Carrying on the momentum from their good performance at the Meyton Cup, the 9 shooters went up against even stiffer competitions from junior shooters around the world at the H&N Cup in Munich, Germany, from 24 to 29 January 2023. Post-secondary student-athlete Jia En hit a personal best score to finish at the top in his qualification on Day 2 of the 10m Air Pistol Men’s Junior event, before notching his first-ever gold medal while representing Singapore at an international competition.
