WTT Youth Contender Antalya 2024
It was a memorable day for Loy Ming Ying on 19 January 2024, as she sealed the Under-15 Girls’ Singles title at the WTT Youth Contender Antalya 2024. Securing her success with a flawless 3-0 victory against Turkish opponent Nil Basaran, the Secondary 2 student-athlete demonstrated stability and dominance throughout the competition, going undefeated and winning in straight sets against all her opponents.
Earlier on, Ming Ying also put up a strong showing in the Under-17 Girls’ Singles event, winning 3-0 against her Turkish opponents in both the round of 16 and quarterfinals. She eventually settled for a joint-bronze medal in the semifinals, where she lost to Germany’s Josephina Neumann with a score of 1-3.
Sibling Loy Xing Yao did just as well in the Under-17 Boys’ Singles event held on 17 January 2024. The Secondary 4 student-athlete got off to a winning start in the round of 16 and cruised his way into the quarterfinals with 3-1. Despite a valiant effort against his Iranian opponent, he eventually took home the joint-bronze medal in the semifinals.
Mixed doubles pair Ellsworth Le and Chloe Lai also earned a silver medal in the Under-19 event. En route to the title decider, they had beaten opponents from Greece, Bulgaria, and Turkey. They put up a strong fight in the final, but eventually concluded the game in 2-3.
Throughout the four-day competition from 16 to 19 January 2024, Team Sports School displayed remarkable achievements, bringing home a total of 4 medals (1 gold, 1 silver, 2 bronze).
