Junior Speed Skaters Shave National Age-Group Records

2019 Inter School Figure and Short Track Speed Skating Competition
Singapore Sports School Secondary 1 speed skaters Amelia Chua Rae-Lene and Ryo Ong Yik made their name as the top skaters in Singapore in the Junior “D” age-group when they each swept all gold medals on offer at the 2019 Singapore Short Track Speed Skating National Championships on 6 July 2019. Both student-athletes emerged champion in the 500m, 777m and 1,000m speed events for 11 to 12 year olds.
Ryo sprinted away to new records in the 500m and 1,000m, setting a new National Junior “D” Record in the latter event, while bettering his personal best in the shorter event.
Amelia and Ryo continued their stellar performance in back-to-back competitions, winning 2 golds in as many events at the 2019 Inter School Figure and Short Track Speed Skating Competition organised by Singapore Ice Skating Association on 9 and 10 July. This time, it was Amelia’s turn to put her name in the record books. She clocked 51.603s and 1:21.471s in the 500m and 777m events respectively to set new Personal Best times and National Junior “D” Records in both events on 9 July.
