2019 Alpha Age Group Series Badminton Championships
Singapore Sports School’s shuttlers emerged victorious in nine events after seven days of intense competition at the 2019 Alpha Age Group Series Badminton Championships. Secondary 2 student-athletes Marcus Phil Lau Jun Hui and Megan Lee Xinyi affirmed themselves as the top shuttlers in the Boys Under 15 and Girls Under 17 categories, clinching gold medals both the Singles and Doubles events.
Badminton Academy student-athletes dominated in the U15 age-group, winning four out of the five gold medals on offer. Marcus led the medal charge in the Boys category with an individual gold, as well as partnered fellow Secondary 2 student-athlete Ng In Qin for the Boys Doubles title.
The Boys U15 Doubles semi-finals were an all-Sports School affair, which meant a clean sweep of medals in the event. The pair of Remus Ng and Safin Noor Azlan joined Marcus and In Qin in the Final but were unable to defeat the latter duo.
Marcus won a third medal – a silver – in the Mixed Doubles with Elsa Lai Yi Ting.
Sports School student-athletes performed well, with 12 of them winning medals in multiple events. Altogether, Badminton Academy won 9 gold, 8 silver and 10 bronze medals at the Championships organised by Alpha Academy at United World College of South East Asia, Dover Campus, from 17 to 23 June 2019.
