Tia Sends Another Mark Into Pit
2019 Hong Kong Inter-City Athletics Championships
Tia Louise Rozario leapt into the record books once again on 23 June 2019 after a best jump of 12.26m in the 2019 Hong Kong Inter-City Athletics Championships Women’s Open Triple Jump event. Her gold medal-winning jump was a 10cm improvement on her previous National Record, and National Junior Record, set at the 81st Singapore Open on 28 March 2019.
Having picked up the event only at the start of 2019, Singapore Sports School’s alumna quickly made a name for herself by first toppling the national record of 12.05m, set by fellow alumna Wendy Enn, in March 2019. Her record-breaking jump of 12.16m made her the second Singaporean to cross the 12m barrier.
The 19-year-old’s name is not new to the record books. Prior to her foray into triple jump, Tia had constantly outperformed her rivals in the shorter-distance hurdles and the long jump. In her school days, the jumper had dominated the 80m and 100m hurdles, and long jump events, breaking various age-group and meet records.
Tia’s first of two medals from the Hong Kong meet came from a third-place finish in the Women’s Junior Long Jump on 22 June. Her jump of 5.74m is a Season Best.
Altogether, Sports School student-athletes and alumni won 1 gold, 2 silver and 5 bronze medals at the Championships from 22 to 23 June 2019.
