15 Shuttlers From Team Sports School Enjoy Home Support At Singapore Badminton Open

Coming off a series of back-to-back international tournaments, Singapore’s top shuttler and Singapore Sports School alumnus, Loh Kean Yew, represented the nation once again. This time, it was on local soil at the Singapore Badminton Open held from 12 to 17 July 2022. Kean Yew was the sixth seed and was expected to do well in the tournament.
Kean Yew booked his place in the last eight of the tournament after defeating Indonesia’s world No. 35 Tommy Sugiarto 21-13, 21-17. A day later, he faced China’s Li Shifeng in the quarter finals. A focused Kean Yew outplayed his opponent with a final score of 21-15, 21-18, securing him a spot in the semi-finals.
The semi-final showdown saw Kean Yew pitting his skills against Indonesian Anthony Ginting. The Indonesian shuttler played a very good net game, showing quick attack and solid defence. After an intense rally, Kean Yew bowed out of the competition after losing 17-21, 14-21 to the more agile Indonesian. Anthony Ginting went on to win the tournament and Kean Yew finished in joint third position.
Other alumni and current student-athletes who featured in the tournament were Crystal Wong Jia Ying, Jason Teh Jia Heng, Jaslyn Hooi Yue Yann, Jessica Tan Wei Han, Junsuke Kubo, Loh Kean Hean, Nur Insyirah Khan Abdul Hamid Khan, Terry Hee Yong Kai, Wesley Koh Eng Kiat, Yeo Jia Min, Donovan Willard Lee (Diploma in Business, Year 3), Johann Prajogo (Diploma in Business Studies, Year 2), Lim Shun Tian (Diploma in Business Studies, Year 3) and Nge Joo Jie (Diploma in Business, Year 2).
