Cycling: Malaysia BMX National Championships 2022

At the Malaysia BMX National Championships 2022 from 2 to 3 July, Secondary 3 cyclist Mikha Zuhayr Norman finished 2nd out of 18 cyclists in the 15-16 years old Men’s Youth category. Mikha displayed an energetic pace to consistently stay ahead of the pack in the top two positions in all rounds against his competitors from Malaysian states such as Johor, Kedah, Sarawak, Terengganu, and Selangor.

Cycling: OCBC Cycle National Championships

At the OCBC Cycle National Championships, Individual Time Trial held on 10 July 2022 off the Tanah Merah Coast Road, National Training squad member Nicholas Chong Xin Le (Diploma in Business, Year 2) pushed his way to 3rd place over the course of 32.5km. Representing Specialised Dynasty Mavericks in the U23 category, his 47min 41.774 seconds timing saw him trail winner and national cyclist Arfan Faisal by over a minute. The effort was, however, good enough to place him 3rd among cyclists with UCI licenses.

Later in the month, on 24 July, Nicholas put on his cycling gear for the OCBC Cycle National Championships 2022 Road Race. He finished 2nd among Singaporeans and 4th overall among the U23 Men, clocking 03.00:09 seconds, just 1 second behind the top three winners. In the process, he placed 13th among an international field of elite riders.

His junior Muhammad Iman Zainudin (Diploma in Business, Year 1) negotiated the five laps totalling 52km to emerge 4th in the Junior Category and 5th overall, which included youth cyclists. In the process, he averaged 40km/hr to finish in 01:18 seconds.

Ice Skating: National Short Track Speed Skating Championships

In the annual National Short Track Speed Skating Championships on 30 July 2022, Sports School skaters Alyssa Pok Jing Ying (IBDP Year 6), Loh Geok Qin (Secondary 2) and Ryo Ong Yik (Leave of Absence) sliced through the ice smoothly to bag 1st place in the Junior 'A' and 'C' Girls, and 2nd place in the Junior 'B' Boys respectively.

Inline Skating: Singapore Inline Skating Tournament Men Freestyle Speed Slalom (Youth)


Secondary 2 student-athlete Keenan Brunkard is one of the best local inline skaters. He was crowned champion of the Singapore Inline Skating Tournament Men Freestyle Speed Slalom (Youth) category. Keenan clocked a self-start of 4.506 seconds to qualify for the knockout rounds, before he won the finals comfortably in 5.472 seconds. His impressive timing of 4.506 seconds was the fastest in the whole competition. The best timing achieved in the Open category best was 4.731 seconds.

This meet follows the now-postponed Asian Games qualifying meet, where he met the qualification criteria.

Triathlon: Tagudin Ilocos Sur Race, Philippines


At the Tagudin Ilocos Sur Race in the Philippines on 24 July 2022, Janel Susastra (IBDP Year 5) came in 2nd in the Sprint Women Junior Elite event after reaching the finish line in 1:26.16 seconds. In the Junior Men category, Sean Patrick (Diploma in Business Studies, Year 3) had a creditable joint-5th place finish in the Sprint Men Junior Elite, crossing the line with a Filipino opponent in a photo finish. Alumnus and SEA Games triathlete Nicholas Rachmadi raced in the Standard Male Elite event and finished 4th in 2:12.33, behind seasoned Filipino internationals, including SEA Games gold medallist John Ieerams Chicano.

Taekwondo: National Taekwondo Poomsae Championships-Ambassador Cup

Secondary 1 Poomsae exponent Gwen Koh En Qi bagged medals of every colour at the National Taekwondo Poomsae Championships-Ambassador Cup. Amidst her towering opponents, Gwen clinched gold in the Female Cadet Team, silver in the Individual category and bronze in the Siblings category. The event held at Our Tampines Hub on 23 and 24 July 2022 was the first event held since COVID-19 halted all face-to-face competitions.
