2022 Asian Fencing Championships
The Singapore Women’s Foil Team repeated a feat that was achieved more than a decade ago in 2010, by securing a joint-bronze medal in this year’s Asian Fencing Championships. Cheung Kemei (IBDP, Year 5) and past student-athlete Amita Berthier were part of the four-women team that represented the nation in this elite fencing competition that featured top fencers from around Asia.
The team advanced to the semi-finals after beating Hong Kong 45-31 in the last 8 but were defeated by eventual champions Japan 31-45. In the battle for third, they were edged out by South Korea 35-44. Still, this was an amazing result for Team Singapore who took the challenges in their stride and fought bravely among Asia’s fencing giants.
In the individual event, Amita recorded another historic feat by finishing in the top 8 in the Women’s Foil Individual category.
