Footballers Shape Up At Overseas Training Camp
Under-16 Football Training Camp in Thailand
18 Sports School footballers travelled to Thailand during the June holidays from 2 to 7 June 2023 for a training camp. The group of Secondary 4 student-athletes had three training sessions and three matches with their Thai counterparts to gain experience and exposure, and learn from them to raise their game.
During their stay, the boys were able to experience a different training environment at Buriram United Football Club, an established Thai club training facility. This includes playing on natural grass where most international games are played. Although it took some time for the team to adjust to playing on natural grass, they were able to perform well and execute their moves after a few practices.
The boys also benefitted from playing with three opposing Thai teams that had strong technical, tactical, and physical qualities. The games were played in high intensity and tempo which stretched the players’ potential individually, as well as the team’s overall performance.
Beyond the competitive play, the boys also formed strong camaraderie with one another. They were highly motivated and had good energy and chemistry throughout the trip.
“Learning from our previous training camp in Thailand in December, we made sure we were well-prepared mentally and tactically for this trip. We knew our opponents are bigger and faster than us. As such, we trained and anticipated the challenges that were waiting for us,” shared Secondary 4 footballer Nor Aqmar Shamil Norsham.
He added: “We played against three Thai Under-17 teams from Bangkok Football Club, Bangkok United, and Samut Prakan City Football Club. Our preparations went well as we won 2 out of 3 matches against our better opponents. In our last match against Bangkok United, we put behind our previous loss of 5-0 to them and rallied together to win 2-0 this time round. Special mention to Coach Shahrin and Coach Hamqaamal who motivated us and gave us proper instructions during our games.”
