Gymnasts Somersault To Podium Finishes
Singapore Gymnastics National Championships
The Singapore Gymnastics National Championships, held during the March holidays from 8 to 17 March 2024, showcased breathtaking performances and graceful display of skills among artistic and rhythmic gymnasts. The championships kicked off with the artistic gymnastics competition, where 11 boys, including an alumnus, accumulated an impressive tally of 18 gold, 13 silver, and 8 bronze medals.
Among these remarkable student-athletes, Abdul Barr Abdulattif stood out from the crowd. Overcoming a significant setback from a serious injury that sidelined him from full training in 2023, the Secondary 5 student-athlete demonstrated sheer resilience and determination. His triumphant return culminated in a stellar performance on the final day of the competition, where he won a gold medal in the High Bar event.
The rhythmic gymnastics competition was equally captivating, with fierce competition pushing student-athletes to their limits. Team Sports School clinched a total of 2 gold, 1 silver, and 3 bronze medals.
Jovi Loh and Thea Chew topped the podium to claim the Individual All-Around (IAA) Junior titles, showcasing not only their technical proficiency but also their poise under pressure. Meanwhile, Sports School debutants Jonah Loh, Evangeline Ng, and Alfonso Tan also impressed with their poised routines, exemplifying outstanding qualities befitting Sports School student-athletes.
