4 Paddlers Win Top Honours At STTA Awards Night
Singapore Table Tennis Association Annual Awards Night 2024
The sporting achievements of four past and present Sports School paddlers were celebrated at the Singapore Table Tennis Association's Annual Awards Night 2024. Held on 28 May 2024, the event saw Izaac Quek Yong and Zhou Jingyi emerging as the evening's standout winners, claiming the titles of ‘Star Player of the Year’ and ‘Youth Player of the Year’ respectively.
Their awards are a testament to their stellar performances in 2023. Izaac showcased his talent by clinching 3 gold medals at the SEA Games in 2023, as well as securing the Mixed Doubles gold at the World Table Tennis (WTT) Feeder Antalya. Additionally, he earned silver in the Boys’ Under-19 doubles and Mixed Doubles at the 2023 ITTF World Youth Championships in Slovenia.
In an interview with The Straits Times, Izaac expressed his gratitude for the recognition. He said: “There’ll be more tournaments coming up this year and with the Olympics, this (award) gives me even more motivation to work harder and get better results.”
For Jingyi, winning the Youth Player of the Year award for the second consecutive year was a significant achievement. Despite facing a demanding schedule that included participation in the SEA Games and Asian Games while coping with multiple injuries, she secured the Women’s Doubles silver and team bronze at the SEA Games, as well as several gold medals at WTT tournaments.
Reflecting on her challenging year, Jingyi shared with The Straits Times, “It (2023) wasn’t the best but I learnt through all these competitions and matured a lot. I’m glad that I managed to push through it.”
Loy Ming Ying and Koen Pang Yew En were also honoured with the Special Award 2023 for their outstanding performances in 2023.
