Medal Splash For Swimmers
SAQ Open Water Qualifier and Singapore National Swimming Championships (Short Course)
It was a medal splash for our swimmers at the 10th Singapore National Swimming Championships (25m) 2023 held from 21 to 25 November 2023. They wrapped the event with 7 gold, 5 silver, and 10 bronze medals.
Jerald Lium clocked a new National Open Record in the Men’s 200m Freestyle event with a time of 1:45.49! Jerald also won another gold medal in the Men’s 200m Freestyle.
“It was a pleasant surprise, but there's still plenty of room for improvement and a lot of work to be done. The format of the race (short course) also played into my strengths, so in a sense, I was quite lucky. I treated this race like any other, without any special preparations. From my swim in the morning heats, I knew what I had to change, and that's all I thought about going into the finals. This accomplishment is a small confidence boost as it shows that the work is paying off. In the future, I'll be looking to get better at racing the more important long course format,” said Jerald.
School records (SCM) were also re-written over the four days of competition. Artyom Lukasevits broke the school records in both the Men’s 1500m and 800m Freestyle. Brandon Yap Yan Xi etched his name as the new record holder in the Men’s 400m Freestyle and Men’s 100m and 200m Butterfly events. Sage Tan clocked in a new timing in the Men’s 100m Freestyle. Elle Nicole Tay Jiaqi also joined the list of record breakers in the Women’s 100m breaststroke and 100m Individual Medley. Lastly, Vivienne Chew En made the mark in the Women’s 400m Individual Medley.
