Paddlers Shine Locally and Internationally

Loy Xing Yao travelled the distance and achieved good results at WTT Youth Contender Szombathely 2023 held from 2 to 8 November 2023. Though he faced tough opponents from various countries, the Secondary 3 paddler clinched the bronze medal in the Under-15 Boys’ Singles event, after an intense battle against a Taipei representative in the quarter-finals with a score of 3 - 2, before ultimately facing defeat against a Japanese competitor in the semi-finals.


The WTT Youth Star Contender Vila Nova de Gaia 2023 from 15 to 19 November 2023 saw our champions shine as they won 2 titles! In Under-19 Mixed Doubles, Izaac Quek and alumna Zhou Jingyi claimed the champion title after a 3-1 win against a Romanian and Italian duo. Another title was claimed by post-secondary student-athlete Ser Lin Qian and Jingyi in the Under-19 Girls’ Doubles after a hard-fought 3-2 victory against a strong German and Luxembourg pair.


In the meantime, our paddlers competed locally at the SAFRA-STTA Table Tennis Championships from 9 to 19 November 2023. The Under-15 Girls’ Team players consisting of Loy Ming Ying, Janelle Chiang and Rhiannon Tey won the champion title for their event. The Under-15 Boys’ Team with Ellsworth Le, Loy Xing Yao and Zhou Jinghe also performed splendidly to win 1st place. Additionally, paddlers Jaryl Wong, Beniah Seah and Tristen Yee earned 2nd place on the podium.

Nicholas Tan, Yang Ze Yi and Koh Junhao have also done well to fight their way to the second place on the podium in the Men’s Team event.


The momentum and success continued at the Dr Lee Bee Wah Cup - STTA Championships, which took place from 18 to 26 November 2023. Loy Ming Ying and Janelle Chiang snatched the gold and silver medals respectively in the Under-15 Girl’s event. Ellsworth Le took the gold medal, with Loy Xing Yao and Zhou Jinghe sharing the joint third place in the Under-15 Boy’s Event.

In the Under-19 Boy’s category, Nicholas Tan, Matthew Ellis and Koh Junhao took home medals of every colour as they won gold, silver and joint bronze respectivelyMeanwhile, the Under-19 Girls, Chloe Lai and Clarissa Lee stood side by side as they took the joint bronze positions.

Despite the paddlers’ busy competition schedule in November, they were still able to push through and ultimately return with good results.
