Pencak Silat Exponents Steal The Show In Dubai

In a dazzling display of skill, Team Singapore's Pencak Silat exponents stole the spotlight and emerged victorious as overall champions at the 7th Asian Pencak Silat Championship and Middle East Pencak Silat Championship, held in Dubai from November 9 to 12 2023. The championships, hosting 300 athletes and 100 officials from 15 countries, witnessed the Singaporean team's prowess in the sport.

Alumni Amirah Sahrin, Muhammad Affiz Mohamed Zakri Sheik Ferdous Sheik Alau’ddin led the charge, securing Asian Champion titles in various categories. Amirah and Affiz showcased their mastery as part of the artistic teams that claimed gold medals, while Sheik Farhan and Sheik Ferdous excelled in individual events. Sheik Ferdous, competing in Senior Class I (85kg), earned the prestigious Best Male Athlete award for his outstanding performance.

The accomplishments did not end there as post-secondary student-athlete Nadhrah Sahrin and alumna Nurul Suhaila Mohamed contributed to Team Singapore's success by securing two silver medals.

The excitement continued at the 1st Middle East Pencak Silat Championships, providing a vibrant platform for current student-athletes to showcase their skills. The team's stellar performances impressed judges and brought glory to Singapore, securing an outstanding 12 medals – 7 gold, 3 silver, and 2 bronze. Team Singapore's triumph in Dubai solidifies their status as formidable contenders on the international Pencak Silat stage, showcasing the nation's excellence in pencak silat.
