‘A’ For Effort At The Asian Games

19th Asian Games

At the 19th Asian Games held in Hangzhou, China, from 23 September to 8 October 2023, past and present student-athletes from Singapore Sports School made their mark by contributing significantly to Team Singapore's medal count. They secured 1 gold, 3 silver, and 3 bronze medals, which accounted for nearly 44% of Singapore's overall medal tally, comprising 3 gold, 6 silver, and 7 bronze medals.

This remarkable achievement was made possible by the participation of 24 current and 41 former student-athletes who proudly represented Singapore in various sports. Notably, alumna Kimberly Ong Li Ling won the nation's first medal on 25 September with a bronze in the Women's Changquan event.

Shanti made the nation proud by winning a silver medal in the Women's 100m, marking Singapore's first athletics medal at the Asian Games since 1974. The cheers grew even louder as Shanti claimed a well-deserved gold medal in the 200m finals with an impressive time of 23.03 seconds.

Keenan Brunkard, the youngest Team Singapore competitor and roller skater achieved a personal best in Men's Inline Freestyle Skating Slalom, while Jerald Lium broke his personal record during the Men's 800m Freestyle finals. In Women's Changquan, Wushu exponent Zoe Tan Ziyi narrowly missed a podium finish, coming in fourth with only a 0.003-point difference from her senior, Kimberly Ong.
