Track And Field Student-Athletes Race Towards Podium
Singapore Athletics Inter-Club Championships 2023
Our Track and Field student-athletes were on fire at the Singapore Athletics Inter-Club Championships 2023. Over the action-packed competition held from 28 to 29 October 2023, they secured an impressive total of 10 medals, consisting of 3 gold, 3 silver, and 4 bronze.
First-year Diploma in Business student-athlete, Laavinia Jaiganth, headed off to a good start on the first day of the competition. In a display of speed and determination, she secured a gold medal with a remarkable 1:00.34s in the Women’s 400m Dash Open. Schoolmates, Navitha Yovan and Louisa Helena Janssen, also joined her on the podium, where they took 2nd and 3rd place respectively.
Buoyed by her strong performance, Laavinia added another gold medal to her collection in the 200m Dash Open event with a timing of 26.63s. This earned her a total of 18 ranking points, which put her in joint first position in the individual rankings for females.
Hurdlers Angela Li Yu Qing and Audrey Koh Shun Yi also showcased their incredible skill in their events. Angela raced her way to a well-deserved bronze in the Women's 100m Hurdles Open, while Audrey took home a silver medal in the Women's 400m Hurdles Open.
Meanwhile, Raam Kumar Muthukumaran did just as well in the Men’s events where he earned a gold medal in the Men's 4x400m Relay Open and a silver in the Men's 400m Dash Open.
Secondary 4 student-athlete Victoria Chua Si Yu also took the stage to shine. Taking part in the Under-18 Women’s 2000m Steeplechase time trial held in the same competition, she improved her best timing by almost 10s with a timing of 8:44.40s. Her remarkable performance earned her a spot in the SEA Youth Athletics Championships 2023, which will be held in Thailand from 7 to 9 December 2023.
