Bowlers Excel At Centre Of Excellence Challenge
Centre of Excellence Challenge 2021
17 bowlers experienced action and excitement when they returned to the bowling lanes during the Centre of Excellence (COE) Challenge 2021 held from 5 to 12 September 2021. The seven-day Challenge ended on a high with Team Sports School clinching a total of 7 medals – 3 gold, 1 silver and 3 bronze. The Challenge was organised by Singapore Bowling Federation.
Singapore Sports School’s bowlers had a clean sweep in the Girl’s Elementary Division Masters, with Secondary One student-athlete Nura Salsabila Zulkifli finishing with a Gold medal. This was the former St. Margaret Primary School student’s first Gold medal-finish with 1393 pinfalls. She said: “It was a roller coaster ride honestly. While bowling, I faced a lot of challenges - from deciding which ball I should use to how I should adjust the ball. When I won, I was excited and the first thing I could think about was how proud my parents were going to be.”
Rayden Lim Yisheng from Secondary 2 topped the same category among the Boys.
Team Sports School also returned with two medals in the Elite Division Masters – a gold by Brian Ngoi Kai Ren and a bronze by Hazel Tan Wei Ning (Secondary 2). Brian was also overjoyed with his win. Brian, who gained exposure to bowling at the age of four, and started learning the game from professionals when he was 6 years old, feels encouraged after his win. “I was really happy. I cannot explain how that felt. COVID-19 has definitely affected my training. So, I was glad to get good results despite the setbacks. I am really thankful to all my coaches for guiding and helping me during the competition.”
