Silver Finish For Nicholas

Nicholas Chong is on a roll. After medalling in several cycling competitions in the past 2 months, the Diploma in Business student-athlete stepped up the podium again to receive a silver at the OCBC Cycle National Championships 2021 Team Time Trial held on 19 September 2021. Together with his teammate, the duo competed against 6 other pairs, covering a total of 10.5km in 14.47minutes along the Tanah Merah coastal road. 

“Compared to the individual time trial which I participated in previously, the team time trial event is a team effort. I have to take into consideration of my teammate’s condition before ramping up the pace. We also have to work together during the race to make sure our riding is as efficient as possible. For example when my teammate is gassing out during the race, he will tell me to take a longer turn so he will be able to recover longer,” shared Nicholas. 

Nicholas had been focusing in the preparation after signing up for the race, riding as much as he can with his teammate so they build camaraderie in riding and cornering in a pair. Speaking of his performance at the competition, Nicholas said: “I feel happy about the result as it is a step up on the podium, from third to second. I also feel satisfied because we hit our target average speed for the race, however I will work harder to try to get to the top at the next race.”
