Winning Streak Continues For Golfers Justin, Xingtong

Justin Kuk Zheng Zhong, a student-athlete in Diploma in Sports and Leisure Management’s extended programme, is now the No.1 amateur golfer in Singapore. He recently fought tough competition and challenging course conditions to win his third National Ranking Game (NRG). Organised by Singapore Golf Association, this edition was held on 6 and 7 September 2021 at the Changi Golf Course. He won the other two National Ranking Games in March and June respectively. 

 

Course conditions were made more challenging due to heavy rain, which shortened the NRG to a two-round event. He did well in the first round, carding 2 under 66 and led by two strokes. After the second round was washed out by the heavy rain, the third round was gruelling for Justin. He was tied at 4-over with competitor Darryl Low all the way up to the 17th hole.  His competitors had good opportunities to win, but Justin’s aggressive approach enabled him to finally win the tournament by two shots.

Justin recently took the Low Amateur Title at the 7th leg of the FTAG Singapore Pro Series. In an interview with Singapore Golf Association, he shared: “It has been difficult to recover my form after a year of lockdowns and an injury in 2020. I am really happy that different aspects of my game are improving. My NRG wins have definitely given me encouragement.”

Jaymie Ng Wan Xin (Secondary 4), Denise Ng Wan Xuan (Secondary 2) and Nathen Tan En Quan (DBIZ Year 2) also did commendably and finished 6th, 8th and 9th in their respective divisions. 

The winning streak also continued for Chen Xingtong (Secondary 1) at the Singapore Junior Development Tour Ranking Series 6. Held over the same days at Laguna National Golf & Country Club, Xingtong scored rounds of 80, 76 and 83 to top the Girls 12 and Under category. She also topped the leaderboard at the Singapore Junior Development Tour Ranking Series in August too.

In the Male Division, Eng Wei Jin (IBDP Year 6) just missed a podium finish by coming in 4th with a total of 226 strokes.
