Fencers’ Medal Haul
2022 Singapore Junior Nationals and Singapore Senior Challenge
Over two weekends at the 2022 Singapore Junior Nationals and Singapore Senior Challenge, Sports School’s past and present fencers went on medal hunt to claim a whopping 20 medals (9 gold, 4 silver and 7 bronze) from both competitions.
At the 2022 Singapore Junior Nationals from 17 to 18 September 2022, our talented fencers wielded their sword, and made it an uphill battle for their opponents to emulate their success, as they secured first position in 5 out of 6 events. The gold medallists are foilists Zephaniah Ian Kiew (Diploma in Business Studies, Year 2) and Cheung Kemei (IBDP, Year 5), epeeist Tim Shee Zhe Guang, and sabreists Dan Wei Zuo (both Diploma in Business Studies, Year 2) and Jae Lim Jia En (Secondary 3).
Marcus Maximilian Tan (Secondary 4) and Filzah Hidayah Nor Anuar (Diploma in Business, Year 1) also put up a strong fight in the Junior Men’s Sabre and Women’s Epee event respectively, with each of them returning with a silver medal.
Meanwhile, our fencers continued their fine form at the Singapore Senior Challenge. The sabreists proved to be strong opponents in their events as they took home a medal of each colour in both the Senior Men’s and Women’s Sabre events. Wei Zuo and Juliet Heng Jie Min (Diploma in Business Studies, Year 1) topped the podium finishes in the Men’s and Women’s categories, while Chan Phu Xien and Nicole Wee Sher Tynn (both alumni) took the second place, and Lucas Tan Wei Feng (Secondary 4) and Jean Koh (alumna) took the third place.
Foilists Joel Chiu Ka Jyn (extended IBDP) and Kemei also stood out from the crowd to claim the gold medal in the Senior Men’s and Women’s Foil events.
