Big Winners At Open Pencak Silat Championships
T5 Liberty Chalice USA International Championships
Team Singapore was a small nation at the T5 Liberty Chalice USA International Championships held in Colorado from 1 to 4 September 2023, but was declared the big winner. Team Singapore was crowned overall champions after topping the leaderboard with 2,250 points at the Championships. The team won 19 gold and 5 silver medals, coming in 1st with a significant margin from other participating countries such as USA, Indonesia, Canada, Kyrgyz Republic, Netherlands and Bangladesh, which took the subsequent positions.
Team Singapore’s overall win was contributed significantly by past and present student-athletes who won 18 medals (13 gold, 5 silver). Alumnus Sheik Ferdous Sheik Alauddin’ golden performances won him 2 gold medals and the 'Best Male Performer' title. Current student-athlete and world champion Aniq ‘Asri Mohammad Yazid, who took part in the Male Lightweight category, came in 2nd in the group stage, and improved his performance to win the title in the championship round. Secondary 4 pencak silat exponent Rifqah Mursyidah Mistam clinched silver in both the group and championship rounds in the Female Lightweight category.
Alumni Amirah Sahrin, Nur Fazlin Juma’en, Siti Khadijah Mohd Shahrem and Muhammad Iqbal Abdul Rahman also made it a fabulous medal galore and played a significant role in Team Singapore lifting the overall champions trophy.
