Shuttlers Dominated Tournament With Stellar Performances
16th Chinese Swimming Club Age Group Badminton (Invitational) Tournament 2023
Past and present shuttlers competed against other top talents from Malaysia, Indonesia, and India in the 16th Chinese Swimming Club Age Group Badminton (Invitational) Tournament 2023 from 4 to 10 September 2023. Over the week-long competition, the Sports School team secured a total of 14 medals (6 gold, 2 silver, 6 bronze).
Secondary 2 shuttler Sophie Aleena Likwan and Secondary 1 shutter May Yoon San stood out from the crowd at the Under-15 Girls’ Doubles event. In just 34 minutes, they took down their Singaporean opponents with a convincing win of 21-18, 21-14 to capture the champion title.
Not to be outdone, their Secondary 4 seniors Stefanie Lee Feiyi and Teo Eng Ker punched above their weight to reach for the top spot in the Under-17 Girls’ Doubles event. They emerged champion with 21-10, 21-13.
Among the boys, Tee Kai Ze put up a strong performance against his Indonesian opponent in the Under-17 Boys’ Singles. With 21-18, 21-19, he placed first on the podium.
The Under-17 doubles boys did just as well. Ace pairing Ng Ming Zhe and Tan Wei Da entered the all-Sports School final against schoolmates Axel Ng Li Wei and Tai Jong Waa. The pair easily won the first game 21-16 before dropping a set 19-21. They eventually tasted success after a teeth-gritting game with 28-26.
Alumni pair Thng Ting Ting and Ong Ren-Ne also emerged victorious in the Women’s Doubles Open while alumnus Jason Wong partnered Bimo Adi Prakoso to win the Men’s Doubles Open.
