Singapore Schools Sports Council (SSSC) Colours Award
Nine student-athletes were recognised for being best in their respective sport among all student-athletes at the 54th Singapore Schools Sports Council (SSSC) Colours Award Ceremony on 20 September 2024. They received the SSSC Best Sportsboy and Best Sportsgirl Award for their excellent sporting performance and character in local and overseas competitions between 1 September 2023 to 31 August 2024 from national wushu athlete and alumnus Jowen Lim. The award is presented to the overall best male and female athlete of the 28 SSSC sports and games.
Among the recipients is Secondary 4 gymnast Jovi Loh Jia Le, who was named Best Sportsboy in Artistic Gymnastics. Jovi made history this year by winning a bronze medal at the Junior Asian Championships, the first time a male artistic gymnast from Singapore has medalled at the event. He shared his thoughts on receiving the award: "I am truly honoured to receive the Best Sportsboy award. It took a lot of effort and dedication to reach this point. I've pushed myself to improve every day, and it's a reminder that success requires both hard work and passion. This award inspires me to keep striving for more, and I want to thank my coaches, teammates, and family for their support along the way. There's always room for improvement, and I'm excited to keep pushing my limits.”
Nur Irdina Hazly, Best Sportsgirl for Bowling, shared similar sentiments. She expressed: “I feel honoured to receive such a prestigious award among the other top athletes. Receiving this award gives me a glimpse that hard work can pay off and with that, it definitely boosted my motivation to train harder as I know it will all be worth it in the end.”
