Milestone Celebration For Class of 2024
Graduation Ceremony 2024
Singapore Sports School celebrated the Class of 2024 on 23 September 2024 as 122 student-athletes marked a pivotal chapter in their lives. The Graduation Ceremony, held at the School’s Auditorium, honoured 91 student-athletes completing their secondary programme and 31 graduates of the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP).
Timothy Low, an alumnus from the pioneer batch, graced the event as the Guest-of-Honour. In his inspiring address, Timothy shared five guiding principles with the graduating cohort: “Embrace opportunities by saying yes, create your own luck, celebrate personal and collective victories, learn from mistakes, and maximize your time.”
One of his key messages urged graduates to focus on accomplishing micro goals with passion and commitment, reinforcing that these small steps would build their readiness for future opportunities. He said, “Become relentless in your pursuit of accomplishing micro goals. Be fully immersed on the task in front of you knowing full well it will serve your greater ambitions in the future. Do everything with passion and full commitment with the total belief that the accumulation of each and every successfully completed task you’ll inch ever closer to that state of preparedness for when an opportunity arises in your life.”
In his speech, Mr Ong Kim Soon, Principal of Singapore Sports School, reminded student-athletes of the importance of their ‘village’ of supporters and cheerleaders in achieving success. He also reiterated that success in sports as a viable career is becoming more of a possibility with increased support in their financial goals and academic journeys.
He also stressed the importance of personal growth during their time in Sports School: “For me, and for the staff here at the Singapore Sports School, our greatest trophy is your personal growth. We take immense pride in seeing you grow—not only as students and athletes but also as individuals of good character, actively contributing to our society, for the betterment of Singapore and the world.”
Swimmer Magdalene Lee, representing the secondary cohort, and Megan Low Wen Qi, representing the IBDP cohort, were the Valedictorians of the Class of 2024. Both shared touching reflections on their unique experiences at Sports School, expressing gratitude for the unwavering support from family, coaches, and staff throughout their sporting journeys.
The graduates had a chance to reminisce about their time at Sports School before receiving awards and their graduation scrolls.
Continue to soar high, Class of 2024! Congratulations on your graduation.
