Scoring Goals
Graduation 2024: Valedictorian (IBDP)
Megan Low Wen Qi is set to graduate from Sports School this year, concluding a remarkable six-year journey marked by challenges and triumphs. The Valedictorian of the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP) cohort has inspired many through her leadership roles, including serving as Vice President of the Student Council and Deputy Head of Student Well-being.
Her passion for netball began at the age of nine with the CHIJ Lady of Nativity netball team. To pursue her dream of becoming a national player, she joined Sports School as she was keen on balancing her athletic ambitions with academic goals while gaining valuable overseas training and competition experience.
Throughout her time at Sports School, Megan has excelled in both academics and sports. This year, she was selected for the Under-21 squad but withdrew to join the national Under-19 team due to conflicts with her IBDP exams. She embraced the opportunity to participate in the Talent Optimisation Programme, training with top New Zealand Secondary Schools netball players, and gained invaluable experience in the Netball Super League.
Megan's journey has not been without hurdles. She faced multiple ankle injuries, including three partial tears, which tested her confidence. With unwavering support from her coaches, parents, teammates, and physiotherapists, she navigated her rehabilitation, emerging stronger and more resilient.
In addition to her athletic accomplishments, Megan served as the overall sports captain for her academy in 2024, organising events like the P6 Netball Carnival and mentoring juniors. She also led the Student Council’s Well-Being Committee from 2023 to 2024 before stepping back to focus on her studies, showcasing her commitment to leadership and personal growth. Reflecting on her experience, Megan shared, “A key lesson that I have learnt is that it is all going to be worth it. Putting in the hard work and making sacrifices in the present will eventually earn you something rewarding in the long run.”
Looking ahead, Megan is filled with excitement and possibility. “The future is really undetermined at this point. I am not sure what I will be doing in five months, a year, or even five years from now. The unexpectedness of the future and the endless opportunities for growth really make me pumped to see what lies ahead for me.”
As Megan Low prepares to embark on her next chapter, her resilience, leadership, and dedication will undoubtedly guide her on a path of continued success and impact.
