Unstoppable Paddlers Secured Success In Local And Global Tournaments
Dr Ng Eng Hen Cup - STTA Table Tennis Championships, WTT Youth Contender Bangkok
From 30 August to 8 September 2024, our paddlers brought their A-game to the Dr Ng Eng Hen Cup - STTA Table Tennis Championships, where they secured a total of 7 medals (2 gold, 3 silver, and 2 bronze).
Among the standout performers is Secondary 3 student-athlete Sie Lay Yin who shone brightly by clinching gold in the Under-15 Girls’ Singles, while Benjamin Lau Yi Yuan took home a silver in the U15 Boys’ Singles.
In the Under-19 category, Jaryl Wong stole the spotlight by securing a gold medal in the Under-19 Boys’ Singles, while Jayden Tan Kai Yang won a silver in the same event. The Under-19 girls did just as well, with Rhiannon Tey Yu Qian taking home a silver, while Joeunn Seow and Clarissa Lee Qian Ying sharing the joint-bronze medal.
Meanwhile, rising star Loy Ming Ying continued to impress on the international stage. On 15 September, she captured her third Under-15 title of the year at the WTT Youth Contender in Bangkok, following her earlier triumphs in Antalya and San Francisco.
This victory came after a thrilling final against her Hong Kong opponent, where Ming Ying faced an early setback, losing the first two sets. However, her resilience shone through as she fought back with remarkable focus and determination. In a nail-biting finish, she clinched the match 3-2, showcasing her exceptional fighting spirit.
