U15 Artistic Swimmers Are Asia No. 2
2019 Asian Age Group Championships
Singapore’s water ballerinas twirled and spun their way to the title of Asia No. 2 at the AASF 10th Asian Age Group Championships on 2 October 2019. The Sports School’s Artistic Swimming quartet of Annabelle Gong Jiaxuan, Caitlyn Anne Tan, Eleanor Quah Yu Wei and Rae-Anne Ong formed half of Singapore’s team in the 13- to 15-year-old age-group.
A score of 128.7969 points – a combination of Free (70.6333 points) and Technical (58.1636 points) routines – won them the Team Group “B” silver medal behind Kazakhstan.
The silver medal was Eleanor’s second medal of the Championships in Bengaluru, India, from 29 September to 2 October. The Secondary 2 student-athlete finished fourth with 132.6123 points (Free – 70.6333 points, Figures – 61.9790 points) in the Duet Group “B” event. The pair of Eleanor and compatriot Claire Tan took home the bronze medal due to the competition rule that disallows a country from winning more than one medal in the same event. Kazakhstan’s two duet pairs ranked top two in the Duet Group “B”.
Post-secondary student-athlete Ariel Sng Kai Lin also put up creditable performances in the Solo and Duet “A” events. Ariel, in Year 2 of the Diploma in Business Studies, emerged as the top Southeast Asian amongst swimmers above 16 years old in the Solo Free (5th, 74.2000 points) and Technical (5th, 71.4735 points) routines. She partnered compatriot Nicole Teo for the Duet Free (5th, 74.6000 points) and Technical (5th, 72.8774 points) routines and also finished top Southeast Asian duo for both.
